The PJM capacity auction is always a big event. One of the tricky things when analyzing the auction’s potential impact on a company is figuring out which locational deliverability area (LDA) a plant is located. I took on the challenge and created a new Tableau viz that shows the LDA for the power plants of the major merchant generators in PJM. This viz is primarily based on the PJM 2020-21 resource model, but also on company reports, SNL, and Garnet Research estimates.
Because of GenOn’s bankruptcy, these assets were separated from NRG in the analysis. The Troy and Armstrong plants that were just sold by Dynegy to LS Power were still included in DYN’s portfolio, as well as their Lee plant which is being sold to a Rockland Capital affiliate.
The viz is below, and can also be viewed on the Tableau Public platform here.
